Casale L’Antico Carro, a B&B in Cortona, is believed—based on historical accounts—to have originally been an ancient monastery, likely part of a much larger monastic complex that stretched across the valley at the foot of Cortona. As evidenced by some stones discovered during the 1764 restoration, the history of the original complex is thought to date back to the 17th century.
In the past, the farmhouse was home to farmers and farmhands who threshed wheat, harvested grapes, and worked the fields: a typical rural setting where farm tools were stored, farm animals were raised, and the land was tended. Owned by Giuseppe Forchetti and Rina Brocchi since 1965 and opened as a guesthouse on July 28, 2012, Casale l’Antico Carro has been perfectly renovated in classic Tuscan style, preserving its original architectural features.
Rina, Mirco and Jessica’s grandmother, was, between the 1950s and ’60s, had been an executive chef at one of the leading hospitality schools in Chianciano Terme. She passed down her legacy and recipes to her daughter Marcella, who—with her expertise and years of experience, alongside one of the partners, Aldo, also a graduate of the Molfetta hospitality school—took the reins of the kitchen at Casale l’Antico Carro.
The Casale is elegantly furnished and comfortable, designed to make you feel right at home. Our six rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated, and equipped with all modern amenities.
For dining options, you can choose between the classic room-and-breakfast package with half-board service or the à la carte menu. The generous breakfast buffet offers both sweet and savory options to satisfy every taste, while our family-run traditional restaurant will delight you with handmade dishes from the Tuscan tradition, prepared with authentic local ingredients.
In the summer, breakfast can also be served at outdoor tables, while during the rest of the year it is served in the indoor dining room of the restaurant adjacent to the reception desk.
Il Casale stands out in the area thanks to its traditional, family-run Tuscan restaurant—a valuable asset open to both hotel guests and outside diners. Carefully converted from the historic 19th-century stables, the restaurant welcomes food lovers with traditional dishes and fresh, handmade pasta.
Thanks to the beauty of its dining rooms and the large outdoor park with a gazebo, the restaurant is also the ideal venue for celebrating unforgettable events such as First Communions, Confirmations, baptisms, and small, intimate weddings. Guests staying at our Bed & Breakfast can also opt for half-board, combining the relaxation of their trip with the most authentic flavors of Tuscany, or freely choose from the à la carte menu.
The farmhouse is surrounded by a large flower garden filled with shrubs typical of the Tuscan countryside (such as viburnum, laurel, and holm oak) and fruit trees (pomegranate, cherry, peach, apricot, plum, and fig). Adjacent to the garden is an area dedicated to growing seasonal vegetables and raising farmyard animals, tended directly by the owner, Mauro Caprini, husband of chef Marcella.
In the center of the park, available for guests’ exclusive use, is a splendid 10x5-meter swimming pool with Roman steps (minimum depth 1.00 m, maximum depth 1.40 m), ideal for relaxing in the total tranquility of the Tuscan countryside and leaving the stress of city life behind.
The property features a large, convenient, and free private parking lot and a traditional restaurant, which also offers easy access for people with mobility challenges or disabilities.
